If you’re looking for a time sink of a game to help you pass the time in isolation, today’s offer will fit the bill perfectly. Square Enix is giving out the “Starter Edition” of its popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV for free on PS4. Available in basically every region, you’ll just need to navigate to the appropriate listing on the PlayStation Store, download the game, and log in.

This offer will include 30 days of free access before you need to pay. The main benefit is skipping the $20 price for the main game. As of the time of writing, the US PSN hasn’t updated the offer yet, but it should be available sometime later in the afternoon.

If you happen to become smitten with XIV, there are three expansions available for purchase. None of these are currently on sale, but it will probably take you quite some time to work through the main game’s campaign. A Realm Reborn has seen some nips and tucks over the years to make it a speedier title, but you’re looking at a few hundred hours worth of stuff to do.

This really is a solid deal if you’re into MMOs. If nothing else, you and your pals can get together and try things out for 30 days without an upfront cost. According to a lot of fans, XIV has the best story of the entire series. That’s a major accomplishment for any game, let alone an MMO.
