Not everyone is happy with Cloud Strife’s updated design in Final Fantasy VII Remake, which might be why Square Enix’s April Fool’s joke involves turning him into a Miqo’te from Final Fantasy XIV.
In the world of Eorzea, the Miqo’te are one of the playable races that the player can choose for their version of the Warrior of Light. The Miqo’te have large hairy ears on the top of their head, which sprout from their hair and resembe the ears of a cat.
April 1st marks the day when companies publish fake news updates on their social media accounts, and 2020 is no exception. The Square Enix Twitter page has uploaded a post talking about fake customization options for Final Fantasy VII Remake that will allow the player to turn Cloud Strife into a Miqo’te, big ears and all.
This isn’t the first time that Square Enix has made an April Fool’s joke in relation to Final Fantasy XIV. In 2019, we saw a fake commercial for a home assistant based on Omega, while 2018 saw Final Fantasy XIX Go, 2017 saw a Tactics Ogre homage to the boss battle against Alexander, and 2016 saw an Uber parody called ChocoGo. Cloud wouldn’t be the first Final Fantasy protagonist to wear a Miqo’te outfit, as both Lightning from Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Noctis from Final Fantasy XV could both don the furry ears of the Miqo’te.
Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XIV have crossed over in the past on numerous occasions and it wouldn’t be too surprising if there was some kind of crossover event between the two in the future. Final Fantasy XIV has been hugely successful for Square Enix and it has already included crossovers with games like Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy Tactics. Fans might not be able to turn Cloud Strife into a Miqo’te, but there is still a chance that the AVALANCHE crew could visit Eorzea in the future.
