With the surprise blown, the official announcements for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Spyro Reignited Trilogy started to be made. The game is due to be released for those systems on September 21st, 2018, which ties into the 20th anniversary of the release of the original Spyro the Dragon on the PlayStation.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will feature ground-up remakes of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. There doesn’t appear to be any new content added to the game, though the controls are meant to be vastly improved over the original versions of each game. The lengthy load times of the original PlayStation will also likely be a thing of the past.

It has also been revealed that Tom Kenny (best-known for playing Spongebob in Spongebob Squarepants) will be reprising the role of Spyro for the game. Kenny originally voiced Spyro in the second and third games in the series. Spyro was originally voiced by Carlos Alazraqui in the first game in the series.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is being developed by Toys for Bob, who had previously developed Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and the Skylanders games.

The release of this game was likely prompted by the huge success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which reminded a generation of jaded gamers about what true suffering is like. It’s also possible that we may see Spyro Reignited Trilogy coming to the Nintendo Switch at some point (as N. Sane Trilogy will be) due to Spyro slowly becoming a multi-platform character over time.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 21st.
