Iron Galaxy Studios–perhaps best known for their extensive work porting games such as Spyro Reignited to PC, Overwatch and Skyrim to the Switch, and Fortnite to Xbox One and PS4–have a new game in the works. In fact, according to studio manager Shekhar Dhupelia, Iron Galaxy is working on several games with at least one of them being “all-new.”
In an interview with Segment Next, Dhupelia revealed that Iron Galaxy has grown to become 200 employees strong. This has allowed the company to embark on “multiple projects,” including the studio’s first entirely original title since 2018’s Extinction.
“We do have an all-new game in development that we’re really excited about,” Dhupelia when asked what Iron Galaxy has in its pipeline. “We’ll have more to say about it later on this year (stay tuned!).”
Iron Galaxy is best known for its expertise in porting various games to PC and consoles. Dhupelia had very kind words for the Nintendo Switch, for which Iron Galaxy ported both Diablo III and Overwatch in recent years. The studio’s last all-new title, Extinction, wasn’t nearly as well-received as its previous work on Killer Instinct for PC and Xbox One.
Killer Instinct 2 is not the “all-new” game Dhupelia mentioned. He did say that Iron Galaxy would “consider” working on a new Killer Instinct game if it was approached by the IP holder. Dhupelia didn’t provide much detail on what Iron Galaxy is working on but did say that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are two consoles that the company has been eyeing for some time and would “absolutely” develop for in the future.
Given Iron Galaxy’s history, it seems almost certain that at least one of those games would be a new port of some kind, but the original game is anybody’s guess. Dhupelia didn’t mention E3 at all in the interview, but it’s the most likely venue for making a new announcement.
The ESA just confirmed Sega, Square Enix, and Bandai Namco will have some sort of presentation during the four-day livestream event that will be E3. That almost fills out the entire list of publishers, leaving just Sony and Konami out of what has traditionally been the biggest gaming event of the year.
