Spiritfarer is filled with wonderful personalities, none at all like the other. But what spirit are you most alike? What makes this indie game so wonderful is how unique and interesting each personality is. Whether they are as confident as Giovanni or dorky as Buck, each spirit brings the player in and makes that departure all the more emotional. However, most players find themselves resonating with a specific spirit.
This can make Spiritfarer all the more enthralling and emotional. However, don’t worry if you can’t find a spirit to resonate with! Just use your preferred D&D alignment to dictate that perfect match.
9 Lawful Good: Alice
Alice is easily one of the sweetest spirits in the game. She is relentlessly kind and will go out of her way to bake pies for the crew and look after Stella when needed. Interestingly, a lot of players see their grandmothers in Alice, which makes the nature of her departure absolutely heartbreaking.
Whilst not all Lawful Goods are kind, most will go out of their way to help those in need and will always put on a happy face when others are down. They follow a personal code or the law and never stray, remaining kind and caring even if it doesn’t benefit them, something that Alice holds in high esteem.
8 Neutral Good: Atul
This goofy spirit is undeniably chaotic but unfortunately, it’s his departure that leaves him perfect for a Neutral Good. Atul is a kind, bubbly and warm spirit who gives some of the best hugs in the game and will eat literally anything the player hands to him. He is undeniably good and would do anything for Stella.
However, he leaves unexpectedly which means that neither Stella nor the player gets the closure they need to move on from their loss. It is known that Stella had the same experience with Atul before he died, with her uncle just disappearing. It was an unfortunate ending to a great story but still had the intended effect.
7 Chaotic Good: Stanley
Nothing screams chaotic more than the beloved 8-year-old Stanley. He is the sweetest spirit in the game and is by far a fan favorite, just like the Chaotic Good alignment. Stanley is kind, bubbly, and extremely bouncy, he loves everyone and is just a wonderful addition to Spiritfarer no matter how hard it is to let him go.
Chaotic Goods are the kind of people who don’t really care about what others think or expect from them. They act on their own whims and therefore are often pretty unpredictable, perfect for the spirit that grows out of a mysterious seed.
6 Lawful Neutral: Gwen
Gwen is the first spirit you meet and for most players, the first spirit you let go. This means that Gwen is a well-remembered and well-loved spirit who allows the player to understand what Stella’s duties really mean.
The main qualities that Lawful Neutrals share with Gwen is their passion for doing what’s right. They will stop at nothing to do the right thing and will follow their code no matter what. It can often be at the cost of others, such as Gwen disappearing to the villa. Nevertheless, Gwen is certainly a favorite.
5 True Neutral: Gustav
While Gustav is surrounded by controversy over an ableist comment, he still remains a rather straightforward spirit. This isn’t to say that he’s unimportant or worth any less than his counterparts, but he certainly isn’t as strong of a personality as Astrid or Stanley.
True Neutral is a rather underappreciated alignment that is actually really great to play. It’s a diverse alignment that allows the player to become who they want, something Gustav finds out as he joins the boat. The player watched Gustav embrace his personality and loves, something True Neutrals certainly need to do.
4 Chaotic Neutral: Astrid
Astrid is a wonderful spirit that is beloved by many and pitied on more than one occasion, especially after Stella welcomes Giovanni on the boat. She is the kind of spirit who always speaks her mind and cares little about the opinions of others, preferring to follow her own chaotic whims.
While playing Astrid’s storyline, the player learns that she previously hid Jewish people from the Nazis during WWII. This is something that chaotic neutrals would happily do, they always act on what they believe in, no matter the consequences.
3 Lawful Evil: Elena
Elena isn’t exactly evil but she is pretty lawful and stubborn in her ways. She is certainly not mean but a Lawful Evil alignment doesn’t always have to be. They follow a code or a law until they die, keeping their traditions true, no matter how uncaring they are.
Now that isn’t to say Elena is uncaring but her reluctance to hug or show emotion makes her come across as cold. Ultimately, she just isn’t as fun or lively as the others which forces her into a rather negative light. Her obsession with sticking to her own strict code is her downfall.
2 Neutral Evil: Bruce & Mickey
Bruce and Mickey are the bullies of the crew. However, they certainly aren’t chaotic about it, preferring to somewhat insult the other spirits rather than get physical or lawful about it. Nevertheless, they end up looking and becoming one of the most disliked spirits in the game, allowing them to slot perfectly with the Neutral Evil alignment.
Most Neutral Evils are just mean for the sake of it, be that a troubled past or just a hatred for a certain type of people. Which is why Bruce and Mickey would most likely be Neutral Evil.
1 Chaotic Evil: Giovanni
The Chaotic Evil alignment is all about people who know they are doing wrong but just don’t really care. They understand that they may be hurting others but are so intent on doing what they want that they end up looking like a bad person.
This is exactly what Giovanni is like, despite him being so lovable and excitable, he ultimately hides behind a rather selfish façade, no matter how much his confidence dwindles he can never keep his promises. He loves Astrid to the ends of the earth yet still cheats on her and breaks her heart, something every player can never forgive him for, making him the perfect Chaotic Evil.
