Think you’ve mastered the realm of real-time strategy? Are tactical strategy games a walk in the park for you? Spirit Oath - from developer and publisher Triangle Square - might be just the game that you’ve been waiting for.

Spirit Oath is a new action RTS that has just been released for PC via Steam Early Access. While no official full release date has been revealed, the developers indicate that the game will remain in Early Access for at least six months.

In Spirit Oath, players take on the role of a forest Guardian Spirit tasked with returning to a conscious state to take out the dark forces that are plaguing the forest. Players will cast spells and rebuild the world piece-by-piece using Rune Tiles, which branch out and heal the land of Elderwood, while creating patterns to summon other Spirit Warriors to fight off the enemies who are attacking players’ core. Gameplay can take place in the game’s story mode or in randomly-generated skirmish levels.

“We’re very excited to introduce players to the forest guardian Darom, her brethren, and the forces of good and evil that inhibit Elderwood, the setting for Spirit Oath,” stated Triangle Square CEO, Yoav Hops. “We’ve carefully crafted this world with incredible thought and effort, and the launch version reflects all of the team’s hard work.”

If there’s one word that could describe Spirit Oath, it would be “unique.” The handful of 100% positive player reviews on Steam thus far indicate a unique and innovative take on the genre, and a challenging one at that.

Now that the Early Access version has been released, the team is already hard at work on generating Spirit Oath’s first content update, which will look to “add even more variety, including a skill tree and additional art." The development team is “also really looking forward to feedback from players, and hearing their requests.”

If you’re looking for a new challenge, Spirit Oath may be right up your alley. The game is available now on Steam for a discounted price of $10 (at the time of this writing).
