Gameplay for Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales was shown off during the PlayStation 5 Showcase today. Creative Director of Inomniac, Brian Horton, introduced the footage, revealing the story takes place one year after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man. And it looks like Miles already has a good handle on his new abilities.
The segment shows off Miles’ new home of Harlem which looks beautiful in the new winter setting of New York City. Vendors crowd the streets as Miles heads to support his mom as a newfound politician. But everybody is in danger as a war between the energy corporation, Roxxon, and a high-tech criminal army, The Underground, rages on.
The combat showcases Marvel’s Spider-Man’s signature style with plenty of new moves for Miles. His suit looks sleek and his classic abilities from the comics are on display, with his shocking abilities coming out of the gate swinging, as well as his invisibility.
The set pieces are massive and feel as though they are straight out of an MCU film. With a bridge being destroyed and Miles flying all over, it looks like he will be up for the quite the challenge. And with the amount of NPCs and detail within the environment, Insomniac proves once again they know exactly how to show off what the PS5 can do.
Focusing on Miles Morales is a brilliant move for Insomniac to make moving forward into next-generation. The end credit scene with both Peter and Miles showing off their powers got players excited for the future, and the fact that an experience focused solely on Miles is already so close is invigorating. He’ll bring a new sense of style and character to the universe, something that could make the franchise even better than it already is.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will definitely be a must-buy for those grabbing a PS5 this holiday season, and for some, may be the reason they pick up the console in the first place.
