Spider-Man: Far From Home hit theaters on July 2 to a massive $39 million opening, with fans of the webhead and the MCU overall packing theaters. One group that attended was developer Insomniac Games, the studio responsible for the highly-successful Spider-Man PS4 title, but the developers were likely not the only ones to realize that Spider-Man: Far From Home has an Easter egg that alludes to the PS4 exclusive, Spider-Man. It’s worth highlighting that this article may contain MINOR SPOILERS for those who have yet to see the film.

At one point in the movie, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is swinging around NYC and takes a selfie, flashing the same pose found in the PS4 title’s selfie mode. It is a small but unmistakable connection between the MCU film and the Spider-Man game that likely excited fans the world over, but it also meant something special to those who worked hard delivering one of the top 10 games of 2018.

According to Insomniac writer Mary Kenney, the whole team erupted in applause when they saw Tom Holland shoot their pose, and understandably so. It’s not every day there’s a unique crossover like this. However, this moment in the film isn’t the only connection between Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man PS4, as the developers saw fit to include two new suits in the game based on the new MCU flick.

Spider-Man: Far From Home introduces two suits for the web-slinger known as the Upgraded Suit and the Stealth Suit, with both Far From Home suits added to Spider-Man PS4 in celebration of the new release. All players have to do to unlock these suits is download patch 1.16 and have progressed far enough in-game to have costume customization.

It seems Spidey’s popularity is still at an all-time high, so it remains to be seen if these new suits and the new movie are incentives enough for anyone to return to Spider-Man PS4 or its DLC. The popularity of the game also likely played a role in its selection to highlight the speed of the PS5, with the next-gen console reportedly able to load Spider-Man 15 times faster than the PS4.

Spider-Man is available now, exclusively for the PS4. Spider-Man: Far From Home is in theaters now.
