Despite recently pulling all of his marked-up gaming devices from shelves due to a potential lawsuit from Nintendo, it appears Soulja Boy’s foray into the gaming market is far from over. Now, the American rapper whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way has revealed yet another gaming console that follows a similar pattern to his previous releases.
This device, an MP5 Game Player, can connect to TVs and computers and comes with a variety of other common day functions. It can also function as a watch, calendar, and calculator. Moreover, it also comes with a multi-thread task mode, meaning that gamers could use it to “listen to music while watching e-books.”
Other stats for the SouljaGame Handheld device include 480x272 resolution, a 4.3-inch screen, and 8 GB of memory, though notably there is no reference to the types of games the device comes with on the Souljawatch website. However, other websites selling this knock-off include NES, SNES, and GBA roms, meaning Nintendo, Capcom, and more could even be involved.
Of course, many are assuming that it is only a matter of time before yet another lawsuit comes into play with Soulja Boy’s latest handheld. Notably, these devices look incredibly similar to Sony’s PlayStation Vita, and Sony is not likely to stand by as Soulja Boy uses the popular design, not to mention the multitude of companies that have games involved with the device. Many have pointed this out already, but if and how Soulja Boy responds to the detractors remains to be seen.
Taking all of this into consideration, it’s hard to see why Soulja Boy has pushed forward with drop-shipping these devices, especially after the Big N intervened before. If nothing else, it seems the legitimacy of everything SouljaBoy does in the gaming industry will be questioned after this move, especially if he does manage to start his own eSports franchise.
