Sony has declined confirmation as it pertains to whether or not Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available for the PlayStation 4 in the wake of the game’s announcement.

The tech giants laid bare some of its plans for the upcoming PlayStation 5 in a lengthy reveal last week, with games such as NBA 2K21 and the aforementioned Marvel title part and parcel.

As it stands, Spider-Man is among the top exclusive PlayStation games, having joined the likes of God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn in such ranks. The title also introduces Miles Morales in full superhero splendor, in the same universe as Peter Parker.

Developers Insomniac decided to have the younger character come to the fore in his own game, which will present a novel story with new villains and unique quests. The game is also set in Marvel’s version of New York City, one in which Miles watched his father get killed after assisting Parker with a mission in the current game.

Fans were pretty pleased to learn Miles will be the main character of the inbound game after getting to control him for a bit. And, while it’s known that the game will be coming out for the PS5, there’s no word on whether it will be playable on the current console.

As much hasn’t been made clear by Sony and Kotaku editor Stephen Totilo did not receive confirmation from the company after his inquiry. “Curious if this is also coming to PS4. We’ve asked Sony and Insomniac, but they haven’t said one way or the other,” he tweeted on Thursday.

“We are also excited for the game to demonstrate the power of PlayStation 5 this holiday. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will show off near-instant loading, ray-tracing, 3D audio and the DualSense controller,” Insomniac Games’ creative director Brian Horton wrote in the PlayStation Blog this week.

“We’ve upgraded our characters with 4D scans and improved skin shading for more realistic looking characters and spline-based hair that moves far more naturally. Many of the city’s assets have also been updated to take advantage of the new console. As you experience Miles’s story, you’ll see, hear, and feel things in a whole new way, all thanks to PS5.”

Sadly, there’s no word on whether or not persons who don’t immediately purchase a PS5 will be able to enjoy the new Spider-Man title, but it’s also quite likely that there will be a version for the PS4.
