2021 is here, and the PlayStation 5 remains a hot commodity worldwide. While Sony promised that more units are coming this year, the PS5 remains sold out at most if not all retailers. Although the console already launched last year in select Asian countries, Sony just revealed when the PS5 is coming to India.
According to the official PlayStation Twitter account for India, PlayStation fans in the country will be able to get their hands on the console starting February 2nd, and pre-orders will begin on January 12. Although Sony did not reveal how many units of the PS5 will be allocated to India, it is expected that stocks will be minimal, so players interested in getting the console should be prepared and check with their local retailers what time pre-orders will open up.
Meanwhile, Sony revealed last December that despite releasing the PS5 during a worldwide pandemic, the latest console still had an impressive first month in the market. According to Sony, the PS5 has become the biggest console launch of all time, breaking numerous records since its release in November. What’s even more impressive is that the PS5 did not just outdo previous consoles released by Sony, but it has managed to beat out all previous video game platforms. The news was confirmed by NPD Director Mat Piscatella, saying that the PS5’s launch being the biggest for a “video game hardware platform in U.S. history” is accurate.
A couple of days ago, reports revealed that the PS5 sold 3.4 million units in four weeks, and the console is speculated to reach somewhere between 16.8 and 18 million units in 2021. Hopefully, this means that stocks of the PS5 will stabilize this year, with more units reaching retailers, especially since there are still a lot of backorders that are yet to be fulfilled. As of now, it appears that Sony will focus new shipments of the PS5 in North America and Europe while expanding its reach in Asian countries where the console remains unreleased.
