Sony has postponed its planned PlayStation 5 gameplay reveal event that was scheduled for this week. Originally slated for June 4, the last week in America has been been an incredibly difficult time for many. In a short statement issued on Twitter, the company stated it does not believe now is the time for celebration over a new gaming console.
While this is slightly disappointing, it is 100% understandable. We need to be showing support to our fellow man during this troubling time. The PlayStation 5 will still be there, waiting to show us games in the future.
Sony isn’t currently discussing when it will be rescheduling the event, but that isn’t the most important thing right now. With protests taking place in most major cities across the country, hyping up the release of a new console, game, or film is hardly what our effort should be focused on.
Sony has made the right call regarding this event. We’ll likely see other publishers following suit with announcements that were originally planned for this week. It might be E3 season and gamers are probably expecting big news, but sometimes political issues need to take precedent. Human life is more important than video games.
