Ever since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, many have wondered whether its severe effects will have an impact on the release of both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. Reports swirled that the virus could be somewhat detrimental to the console’s release due to many workers having to stay home during this troubling time, with speculation only growing as both Sony and Microsoft remained somewhat quiet about how their teams were coping with this unforeseen complication. It seems one of the two major companies has finally given a solid update, however, and the news is surprisingly positive.
Talking with Bloomberg, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 5’s release date has currently not been shifted to compensate for the spread of the Coronavirus, with a Sony spokesperson supposedly claiming that the console will still ship at the end of the year. This is undoubtedly positive news for fans, who were worried the Coronavirus would have a significant impact on when the next-generation consoles would hit stores.
It seems that Sony’s other departments haven’t been faring as well during the outbreak, with the report also claiming that the company expected to see a profit increase that, due to the virus, is now seemingly impossible. It’s good that development on the PlayStation 5 won’t suffer the same setbacks that the rest of the company seems to be combating, especially with excitement for next-generation hardware skyrocketing in recent months.
For those unaware, speculation surrounding the fate of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 began during the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak, with a number of reports claiming that the consoles could face significant delays due to the severity of the virus. While there’s still a chance that Sony and Microsoft’s newest offerings could fall short of their deadlines due to the effects surrounding the pandemic, for now, it seems the PlayStation 5 is chugging along to its holiday 2020 release window.
Naturally, if the console were to be delayed, fans would no doubt be disappointed. While Sony’s recent broadcast about the upcoming new hardware landed to a fairly lukewarm reaction, the addition of an innovative SSD, brand new sound technology, and a ton of insane rumored launch titles waiting in the wings make it clear that the release of the PlayStation 5 is going to be incredible. Hopefully, when the outbreak subsides, fans will be able to fully look forward to experiencing all the technologically advanced thrills that the PlayStation 5 will offer.
The PS5 is planned to release this holiday.
