The countdown to E3 has begun. The world famous video game event will be held at the usual Los Angeles Convention Center in about one month. As expected, Sony will have a notable presence. The company has announced in a blog post the details into what PlayStation will be featuring. The blog emphasizes four games that will be the center focus of Sony’s E3 presentation: the mysterious Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, and perhaps the most anticipated one, The Last of Us Part II.
Those concerned that the four games will be the only ones featured at PlayStation’s presentation can rest assured; Sony says there will be announcements from third-party publishers and independent developers as well.
Sony: “Of course, we’ll have stellar announcements from third-party publishers and independent developers, who are all busy devising innovative new experiences that will make your heart race and your emotions soar — whether you’re playing on PS4, PS4 Pro, or PS VR.”
The four core games however, should be enough to satisfy many PlayStation owners, and those looking to purchase a Sony console for the first time. First, Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding is sure to be a highlight. Both its original E3 2016 teaser, and ‘The Games Awards 2017’ trailer, have caused quite a stir in the gaming community for how odd they make the game look. No action gameplay has been shown, so maybe Sony will showcase some of that, and unveil more mysterious story details.
Next, back in 2017, Sucker Punch released an impressive trailer for Ghost of Tsushima, a game set in a time period when samurais roamed Japan. The company’s previous full game was inFAMOUS: Second Son, so it will be interesting to see a story set in an entirely different culture. Of course, as with the inFAMOUS series, Sucker Punch has proven to be masterful when it comes to third-person combat, so it stands to reason the gameplay in Ghost of Tsushima will be top notch. Hopefully, Sony will showcase gameplay at E3.
Meanwhile, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man has been hotly anticipated since its unveiling in 2016. It will be released on September 7th of this year. It should be worth the wait, as the combat looks to be the best of the Spider-Man games. Many story elements and gameplay mechanics have been unveiled, so it will be interesting to see what Insomniac has in store at E3. Finally, it should go without saying that The Last of Us Part II is highly anticipated. So far, two cinematic trailers have been released, promising to have an engrossing story like the game’s predecessor. The original game has an impressive 95 on Metacritic, so Part II has a lot to live up to. Hopefully, we’ll get at least a broad release date at E3.
According to Sony, PlayStation’s presentation will be on June 11th, at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Those not attending E3 can watch from home live at live.playstation.com, Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.
