Sony has officially apologized for the shoddy PS5 pre-order situation and has promised that more consoles will be issued to retailers over the coming days.
The PS5 pre-order situation is in total shambles, and Sony has broken its silence on the matter. The official PlayStation Twitter account has released a statement, apologizing for the pre-order problem.
Sony has also promised that more PS5 consoles will be available to pre-order over the next few days, and to check in with the retailers, who will have the information. Sony also promised that more PS5s would be made available throughout the rest of the year.
The poor planning for the PS5s pre-orders was likely a response to Microsoft taking the initiative and announcing the details for the Xbox Series S/X first, which left Sony scrambling to do the same. Microsoft has been making fun of Sony’s pre-order situation on social media, by promising that it will announce the exact time they will go live and won’t leave people in the dark until the last minute.
A lot of PlayStation fans have been unable to secure a PS5 pre-order, thanks to the haphazard manner in which they went live, creating an environment where scalpers have flourished. Sony needs to sort the situation out fast or risk turning away customers who don’t want to be gouged on the second-hand market this Christmas.
The PS5 will be released on November 12th in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, and November 19th in the rest of the world.
