The executives at Sony dismissed rumors that PS5 pre-orders will soon go live.
Geoff Keighley, a Canadian video game journalist and television presenter, conducted an interview with Eric Lempel, the lead of the Playstation’s worldwide marketing. During the interview, Keighley asked about when players should expect for PS5 pre-orders to go live, which garnered the response by Lempel, “No, definitely not now… we’ll let you know when pre-orders will happen.”
Before the interview was conducted, many rumors and speculations arose which all concluded that PS5 pre-orders would soon be available for purchase. It is worth mentioning that Lempel expressed confusion as to how and why these rumors were circulating. With this quote from the head of marketing, all rumors and speculation regarding PS5 pre-orders are now debunked. You can find part of the interview here.
In addition to the interview with Eric Lempel, Keighley also got to experience the PS5 controller hands-on and shared it earlier this week. One of the new key features of the controller is its adaptive triggers. These triggers will be able to change its tension based on what is happening in-game. It could make the triggers feel more like a bow, or match the feeling of reloading in a game, allowing for a much more immersive experience than any other controller.
Players will have a choice between two models of the PS5 during its 2020 holiday season launch. One version of the console will feature an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. Unlike this model, the other PS5 model will actually be lacking any sort of disc drive, which will only allow for digitally downloaded content only. The trade-off for the lack of a disc drive is a lowered starting price. According to a recent analysis, the total price reduced is estimated to be around $50.
With many people hyped for the release of the PS5, people are also keen on pre-ordering a PS5 in order to secure a console due to the projected lack of supply. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for rumors and speculations to be circulating around due to this eagerness to pre-orders. However, we must be vigilant about fake rumors and speculations in order to avoid getting a false sense of expectations. That being said, we can expect the hype for the PS5 to increase even further as it’s launch day gets ever closer.
