Sony is donating $100 million dollars to support those around the world affected by the COVID-19 virus.
Sony has issued a press release announcing the establishment of the “Sony Global Relief Fund for COVID-19.” Sony will be donating its money to three different groups - people who work in emergency services and front-line responders, educators and children who have to work remotely, and support for creatives in the entertainment industry whose livelihood has been affected by the coronavirus.
Sony will donate $10 million to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO powered by the UN Foundation, Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The education money will support technologies that can aid students who are missing out on school due to the self-isolation period. The creative industries’ money will go to people whose profession has been affected by the coronavirus, due to productions being canceled or delayed.
Sony CEO & President Kenichiro Yoshida has discussed the company’s philanthropic endeavors in a statement in the press release, talking about the effects that the coronavirus has had on his staff.
