After tons of speculation about what the second title would be this month, Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Plus subscribers will be getting Star Wars: Battlefront II and Call of Duty: WW2 as their free games this month. Two relatively high-profile releases, it’s kind of a bummer that both titles are shooters. Not everyone wants that or can even play said games.

WW2 might not be worth that much, but Battlefront 2 has dramatically turned around from its 2017 release. EA and DICE have done a solid job reversing the public reception of the previously microtransaction-laden experience. I don’t know if I personally care for the brand anymore, but you can’t really go wrong with this title nowadays.

As I’ve been saying for months, it would be nice to know what Sony is planning to do with PS Plus once the PS5 rolls around. Keeping the price at $60 a year and only offering two games a month is a dud of a deal. Xbox Live Gold might not be dramatically better, but Microsoft’s Game Pass service completely destroys what Sony is offering.

Maybe in the run-up to this holiday season, we’ll see Sony start offering up bigger games to entice gamers to subscribe. That would be a solid change of pace from the past year or so.
