That’s a wrap for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The Sonic sequel has already completed filming in Vancouver, Canada after only just starting production in the middle of March.

This news comes to us by way of director Jeff Fowler, who tweeted the movie’s milestone late last night. “That’s a wrap in Vancouver! Thank you to all the amazing cast/crew in this city… so much incredible talent helping make #SonicMovie2 truly special (and spoiler alert… EPIC!).”

Of course, filming is just one step to creating a movie these days. Post-production, effects, editing, and the possibility of reshoots mean that all involved in Sonic 2 will be plenty busy leading up to the movie’s 2022 release date.

So far we know that Ben Schwartz is set to return as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey will reprise his role as the evil Dr. Robotnik. After being stranded on the mushroom planet at the end of the first film, Robotnik has gone completely insane and is out for revenge against a certain blue hedgehog.

You’ll note that Fowler’s tweet features a picture of him sitting in front of a bunch of mushrooms, which likely ties into Robotnik’s story.

If you’re loonkin’ for potential Sonic 2 spoilers, we got ’em. Shots from the set suggest that there will be at least a few scenes with a number of military-style vehicles that belong to GUN, an organization that first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 in order to preserve the Earth from alien threats (including a very fast hedgehog).

There’s also some evidence to suggest that Tails will appear at some point. Leaked footage from the set shows a stuntman getting carried upwards on a wire harness in a surprising way, as if a flying twin-tailed fox were to carry them skyward.

There’s also a picture of Knuckles just standing around, so there’s that.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 arrives in theatres on April 7, 2022.
