The mobile version of Sonic Forces is about to introduce comic book fan-favorites Tangle and Whisper into the game’s roster. The duo will appear as rare runners for a 3-part event with a date still to be announced.
Sega Hardlight promoted the details of the event on Twitter yesterday and was met with excitement from fans. The post detailed that the Spiral Hill Village hero and the Guardian of the Battlefield would appear for the game’s week-long event. The post also revealed that the heroes would aid the resistance in battling Eggman’s army for the community event, where Tangle & Whisper cards could be won as prizes. The last time a Sonic comic book character debuted in one of the franchise game’s was 25 years ago for the Sonic Spinball bonus stages.
An array of Sonic GIFs and memes were posted to express the delight of gamers when the tweet was published by the British studio. Fans added that it was exciting to see new characters become playable for the first time; others were happy to see some female power arriving on the mobile game. Some Twitter users asked if Eggman would appear as a playable character in the future, or if Tangle and Whisper were set to get their own game soon.
Tangle and Whisper appear in a comic spin-off of Sonic the Hedgehog by IDW Publishing. The miniseries depicts various adventures of the Lemur and Wolf that debuted back in July 2019 as the first American Sonic-related comic series. The pair instantly became a popular partnership within the Sonic community and have already been marked as a successful edition to Sonic Forces.
Sonic Forces allows you to compete against players from around the world as you indulge in various runs. Before the addition of Tangle and Whisper, players were able to run as Sonic, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge and more – with the chance to unlock rare characters like Omega and Vector during the game’s progression. The game also allowed you to play as the movie version of Sonic, released back in February.
Available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam, Sonic Forces was originally released in 2017 to mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary and was widely labelled as a strong performer. The lite version for mobile has since raised a loyal following and fans are keen to welcome Tangle and Whisper to the mix.
