Soda Dungeon 2 is out in Early Access on Google Play, with the rest of us having to wait until July to play it.
Soda Dungeon was originally released back in 2015 for mobile. As the name suggests, it was a light-hearted dungeon crawl where you play as a tavern owner looking to hire a band of mercenaries to raid a nearby dungeon. The heroes get new weapons and armor, while the tavern owner gets new upgrades for the tavern and new sodas to sell. Win-win.
The game was hugely successful with millions of downloads on iOS, Android, and later on PC via Steam. And now a sequel is coming that promises more of the same, but better.
In Soda Dungeon 2, there will be more of a focus on customization for your tavern and a merry band of heroes. You’ll upgrade both equipment for your party to wield in battle and also chairs and stools for them to sit on after a long day of adventuring. Every time you get a new soda, you’ll attract an even more diverse cast of typical fantasy RPG classes.
Combat plays out in the usual turn-based way, with each level of the dungeon getting progressively more difficult. It’s all random, so one floor might pit you against a terrifying giant Medusa, while another floor will have you fight a collection of spoiled foods or an enormous fairy.
You can get Soda Dungeon 2 on Google Play now if you sign up for early access, and the full game will release on July 9 for iOS, Android, and Steam. It’s still free-to-play but comes with in-app purchases. Don’t expect them to be too awful; the first game stayed well away from play timers and paywalls.
