The Ver. 8.0.0 patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is live and it marks the first major addition to the game since the conclusion of the first Fighters Pass.
The new patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has made a number of balance adjustments, but almost all of them are positive. No character has received any significant nerfs this time around. Here are the highlights:
New Additions
The latest patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has added Min Min from ARMS as a playable fighter, as well as the Spring Stadium stage and a selection of new music tracks from ARMS. There are also new Mii Fighter outfits for Ninjara from ARMS, Heihachi from Tekken, Callie & Marie from Splatoon, and Vault Boy from Fallout.
It’s now possible to have rematches with Spirits in the game. There are also new Spirit battles for Master Mummy, Mechanica, Byte & Barq, Kid Cobra, Helix, and Max Brass from ARMS.
Final Smashes - Buffed (Except for Palutena’s)
Several Final Smashes have been improved in the latest patch. Mario’s FS has increased range & power, Jigglypuff’s FS makes opponents move slower when the move is activated, Ice Climber’s iceberg is faster & stronger, Dr. Mario’s FS is stronger, Zero Suit Samus’ FS has longer hit detection, Sonic’s FS has greater range and opponents move slower when it’s activated, Olimar’s FS deals more damage, the final shadow in Wii Fit Trainer’s FS has greater range & launch distance, Rosalina & Luma’s FS deals more damage and has greater launch distance, and Terry’s FS has a greater launch distance.
Palutena is the only character whose FS got nerfed, as opponents are slowed down for less time and the black hole has a shorter range. The launch angles of Bayonetta’s FS have also been altered so that people who aren’t KO’d have a better chance at recovering.
Kirby - Buffed
Kirby has received some much-needed buffs in the latest patch. Kirby’s dash attack, down smash, forward/back airs, and Stone have a greater launch distance. Kirby’s dash attack has less vulnerability, his down smash is faster, and the first & second attacks of his forward air are stronger.
Captain Falcon - Buffed
Captain Falcon’s dash attack now has less vulnerability, his down tilt has greater launch distance, the second hit of his up smash has greater launch distance, his Falcon Kick is faster and the sweet spot has greater launch distance.
Captain Falcon’s Raptor Boost has increased attack range when used on the ground, but it has a shorter launch distance. It now has an easier time spiking enemies when used in the air.
Falco - Buffed
Falco’s down tilt is now faster (with an adjusted launch angle), his neutral air is faster/the last hit has greater range, his down air leaves him less vulnerable, and Falco Phantasm has greater hit detection and is faster when used on the ground.
Falco’s up smash connects more reliably, has greater hit detection, and launches enemies further.
Marth - Buffed
The sweet spot in Marth’s sword has received a number of buffs. His down smash has greater launch distance when the sweet spot connects. Marth’s sweet spot has an easier time connecting when using forward air, back air, or up air attacks.
Mewtwo - Buffed
Mewtwo’s up air has greater launch distance, as does his back air, with the tip/mid-section of his tail dealing more damage. His downward throw leaves him less vulnerable.
Mewtwo’s Shadow Ball is faster, has less vulnerable, and deals less damage in its uncharged form. Mewtwo’s teleport has less vulnerability when he lands.
Meta Knight - Buffed
The scourge of the Brawl competitive scene has received some buffs in the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate patch. Meta Knight’s neutral air has great range, his forward air connects more reliably and has less vulnerability, and his back air connects more reliably.
Meta Knight’s Mach Tornado has greater hit detection for its sweet spot, while his Shuttle Loop connects more reliably, has an adjusted launch angle, and the second attack has increased range.
Pit/Dark Pit - Buffed
Pit’s down tilt has a shorter launch distance and knocks enemies back at a different angle. The final hit of his up smash has increased launch distance. Pit’s up air is faster, has greater knockback, and it has reduced vulnerability. Guardian Orbitars now have reduced vulnerability. These same changes also apply to Dark Pit.
Ike - Buffed
Ike’s dash attack has a greater launch distance, while his down tilt has reduced launch distance. Ike’s neutral air has greater launch distance and the sour spot has a smaller hitbox. His forward air is stronger and has reduced vulnerability. The last hit of Aether now has considerably more horizontal knockback than before.
Diddy Kong - Buffed
Diddy Kong’s dash attack now connects more reliably and has increased range. His side tilt has increased range and hit detection. Diddy’s down smash is faster and the second hit has greater hit detection, while his forward air has increased range at the start of the move.
Diddy has received a minor nerf, as he now has to wait longer to use Banana Peel again after it has been used.
King Dedede - Buffed
King Dedede’s up tilt is stronger and has greater knockback, his forward air has increased knockback, as does the final hit of his up air. Dedede’s Inhale is faster and has greater range on the ground.
Villager - Buffed
Villager’s neutral attack connects more reliably. Their up tilt connects more reliably and the head/arms are now invulnerable when performing the attack. The fireworks in Villager’s up smash are stronger and have greater knockback. Their up air has greater knockback, while down air is faster. Timber now has less vulnerability and the axe hits are stronger, especially against shields.
Wii Fit Trainer - Buffed
Wii Fit Trainer’s up smash is faster, their down smash/forward are less vulnerable, and Sun Salutation has greater knockback.
Corrin - Buffed
Corrin’s side smash has a stronger/greater range for its sweet spot, and opponents are stunned for longer when their shield is broken by the move. Their forward air is stronger, while the back air is stronger and has greater knockback. Corrin’s up air is stronger and has greater knockback. Dragon Lunge has reduced vulnerability and the kick part of the move has greater knockback.
Bayonetta - Buffed
The scourge of Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U is back. Her up tilt is faster, connects more reliably, and has a greater range. Bayonetta’s side smash has greater knockback and hit detection. Opponents move a shorter distance while hitstunned when struck by Witch Twist.
King K. Rool - Buffed
King K. Rool’s dash attack has greater knockback and the hit detection for the sweet spot has been increased. His up smash is stronger and has greater knockback. His belly armor is stronger, and he has a harder time flinching when throwing the crown during Crownerang.
Isabelle - Buffed
Isabelle’s dash attack, up smash, and down air are faster. Her up tilt has reduced vulnerability and her up air has greater knockback.
Incineroar - Buffed
Incineroar’s up smash and forward throw have greater knockback and his grab is faster. Alolan Whip has a faster grab and the lariat has increased knockback, while Revenge has reduced vulnerability and the power buff is increased when Incineroar is hit.
Piranha Plant - Buffed
Piranha Plant’s up tilt, down smash, and forward air are faster. Its back air has greater knockback, while its up air is stronger and has greater knockback.
