A few of the Spirits that were part of timed events in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are part of the game permanently, as the Spirits from Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ring-Fit Adventure can now be encountered or purchased in the game.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate replaced the trophies from previous generations with Spirits based on famous video game characters. The Spirits can be equipped to grant different buffs to the player, such as making them immune to types of damage or starting them with items. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has generally added Spirits to promote upcoming games or series that aren’t yet represented. These Spirits generally appear during limited events, and the player will need to defeat their avatar (based on one of the fighters in the game) to unlock them.
A few of the Spirits available during limited events are now permanently part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. According to the SmashBrosJP Twitter page, the Spirits that were available as part of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Ring-Fit Adventure events are now permanent parts of the game.
The Ring-Fit Adventure Spirits originally appeared as part of the “Spirits Fit for a Fight” event, and it added the Ring-Fit Trainees, Dragaux, and the Ring to the game. The Animal Crossing Spirits originally appeared as part of the “Animal Crossing Spirits! Yes, Yes!” event, and it added C.J., Daisy Mae, Flick, and Orville & Wilbur to the game. These Spirits can now be randomly fought on the Spirit Board or purchased through the shop.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ring-Fit Adventure are two of the biggest Switch games of the past few months, as they have provided an excellent means of escapism during the isolation period. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans now have a chance to honor these games by enslaving their Spirits and using them as buffs, before banishing them back to the box like an unwanted Pokémon and never using them again.
