Among the numerous factions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, one faction is special in the sense that it’s much harder to join than the rest. The secretive and exclusive guild of assassins, the Dark Brotherhood, has existed for hundreds of years all across Tamriel and struck fear into the hearts of its citizens.

In the Falkreath Sanctuary, the Dragonborn will encounter a ragtag group of assassins, including a young child with striking red eyes. Babette, the most interesting and perhaps the deadliest character of all, is a child vampire many don’t know enough about.

10 She Can Train You In Alchemy

All across Skyrim, there are multiple NPCs who can train the Dragonborn in a variety of skills. Alchemy is a pretty underrated one, but when harnessed it can save a lot of gold when it comes to healing potions, especially towards the end of the game.

Babette is a great trainer to seek out for those who decided to join the Dark Brotherhood. She also sells a whole bunch of different potions and can usually be found wandering around the alchemy table in the Brotherhood’s headquarters.

9 She’s Over 300 Years Old

Don’t let appearances fool you. Babette might look like a child, and she does have the exact model of a Skyrim female child, but in reality, she couldn’t be further from one. Otherwise, she probably wouldn’t be a member of the Brotherhood in the first place.

Babette is actually 300 years old, which means that not only is she older than most NPCs in Skyrim, she also probably older than most elves who are known to live for an extremely long time.

8 She Saw The Oblivion Crisis

Due to Babette’s age, she’s witnessed quite a bit in her time. It’s probably all these experiences and watching one world crumble, and another one rise from its ashes that turned her into a jaded and cold-blooded murderer.

One event in particular that must have touched her was the Oblivion Crisis. If her age of 300 years or so is indeed true, then she was there to witness the events of Oblivion first hand.

7 She Can’t Be Harmed

Although Babette is mentally an adult or even perhaps an old lady by the standards of many, she’s still stuck in the body of a child. The game also considers her a child at all times, which means that there are special rules that apply to her.

For one, Babette can’t ever be harmed or killed, as is the case with any other child in the world of Skyrim. For two, she also can’t be pickpocketed at any stage, even though she’s a shopkeeper and technically has an inventory.

6 She’s The Only Child Vampire

While there are tons of children in Skyrim, Babette is no doubt the most special of them all. She’s actually the only child vampire in Skyrim, making her an extremely unique NPC and overall a very uniquely designed character.

In her own words, Babette says that she became a vampire when she was about 10 years old when she was bitten by another vampire. Unfortunately, the details and why and how of the event are shrouded in mystery.

5 She Sometimes Hunts For Blood

If the player has the Dawnguard DLC installed, Babette gets a small upgrade to her character and to her AI. Since she’s a vampire and this DLC is basically centered around vampirism and the Dawnguard guild, it’s only natural she gets expanded as well.

Babette can actually be spotted in the wilds on numerous occasions and when approached she might state that she’s out looking for a snack. It’s possible to run into her hunting for prey as a random encounter, and she’ll complain about the food Nazir cooks at the sanctuary.

4 She Doesn’t Become Hostile

As already established, children are a special case in Skyrim due to their immunity to any damage. Likewise, Babette can’t ever turn hostile against the player, even if they misbehave grossly at the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary.

One prime example is attacking the spider Lis within the sanctuary. If this happens, every other assassin will turn hostile towards the Dragonborn, except for Babette who will simply be confused as to why people are fighting.

3 Sometimes She’s Not A Sanctuary Member

If the player chooses to join the Dark Brotherhood, Babette will always be a staple member of the guild. However, if the player instead kills Astrid at the Abandoned Shack, they’ll get the opportunity to destroy the rest of the Dark Brotherhood.

If this happens and the player enters the sanctuary, Babette will not actually be there or even appear as a member. This is most likely done to spare her since she’s unkillable as a child anyway.

2 She Has A Flawed Voice Line

Babette is voiced by Harley Graham, an actress known for recurring appearance in Disney shows, as well as series like The Mentalist and even Parks and Recreation. Her voice is also the default one for all female children within the game, which is why it might sound super familiar.

There’s one line in the game, however, where Harley Graham mispronounced the word alchemy, which can still be heard in the game to this day.

1 She’s Very Loyal To Astrid

The main issue with the Dark Brotherhood is Astrid’s role as a leader. Despite the existence of the Five Tenets, Astrid as rejected them and instead promotes herself as the ultimate leader and mother of the sanctuary.

Babette has completely accepted Astrid as the leader, as proven by her statement, saying she would have no doubt been loyal to the Unholy Matron years ago, but that she’s now loyal to Astrid and Astrid only.
