Many years after Sharknado paved the way for silly shark-based films to find mainstream appeal, Fuse Box Films has released a trailer for a movie that will take things to their obvious conclusion. Sky Sharks features flying robot sharks, mad Nazi scientists, and all the cheesy special effects a shark-loving audience could ever wish for.
Sky Sharks is… well… a film about sky sharks. They swim through the air, instead of water, and are equipped with all sorts of menacing-looking technology that will presumably help them hunt down and kill anything unfortunate enough to share the same airspace. Billed as a sci-fi comedy horror, the German movie boasts all sorts of interesting features, and the trailer shows off a unique vision of a world ravaged by flying Nazi sharks and their sinister creators.
The film’s plot summary is certainly something to behold: “Deep in the ice of the antarctic, a team of geologists uncover an old Nazi laboratory still intact where dark experiments had occurred. In order to conquer the world, the Nazis created modified sharks who were able to fly and whose riders are genetically mutated, undead super-humans. A military task force called ‘Dead Flesh Four’ - reanimated US soldiers who fell in Vietnam - is put together to prevent world downfall.”
How exactly Vietnam soldiers are going to react to the spectacle of flying Nazi sharks, or how they would even pose a threat to them, is a question for the ages. At the very least, it should make for a set of compelling underdogs, going up against the literal Nazi super-humans that have perverted nature to their own sinister ends. As the world outside gets grayer, and more complicated with each passing moment, it might be nice to have a silly, simplistic movie to look forward to as a pleasant break from reality.
Anyone who wishes to see Sky Sharks as soon as possible should consider purchasing a ticket to Frightfest Digital Edition 2020, where the film will be one of the first shown to audiences. Frightfest will be running from Thursday August 27, to Monday the 31st, and Sky Sharks will be shown on the first day as the inaugural movie of the show. As is typical of conventions this year, Frightfest will be all digital in response to Covid-19. Tickets can be purchased at their website.
