Remember the good old days of skating video games? First dominated by the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise, then by the hyper-realistic Skate series, the genre has gone pretty much dormant since 2010. Thankfully, Skater XL is set to break the drought this July.

Although we still don’t have a firm release date, a new trailer revealed that the realistic skateboarding title is planned to drop at some point in July. It also showed off a bit more gameplay footage of Easy Day Studios’ take on the genre. It’s clear that Skater XL is heavily influenced by the old Skate games and is looking to be a more grounded experience than Pro Skater.

Highlighted in the trailer were street legends Tom Asta, Evan Smith, Brandon Westgate, and Tiago Lemos, tearing up the beautiful — and sprawling — Los Angeles map. It’s billed as the “first ever skateboarding title to give direct control of the feet and board at all times,” allowing players to pull off some ridiculous tricks. Hopefully it’s not too realistic — otherwise it’s going to take months to figure out how to kickflip.

Skater XL is currently available on Steam in Early Access form and has been garnering “very positive” user reviews. Players are raving that it’s a “true skateboarding simulator” and that it already shows a lot of promise. When it officially launches in July it will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
