Curses are tricky things, especially in The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. There are nine different curses in total, each with unique effects, common triggers and long-lasting consequences. If your spellcaster is cursed then removal for any curse is the same. Your sim will need a potion or a spell to remove it unless of course, you cheat.

The curse removing spell, decursify, is a master-rank spell in the Untamed branch of magic. It will be learned once you’ve discovered all the lower-ranked spells in that magic school and reached the appropriate level.

If you wish to use the Potion of Curse Cleaning instead, this can be learned at level 3. It will require you to have an Apple, Citrine crystal, Angelfish and Mandrake. These items are all available in the Realm of Magic so you won’t need to go far. You can also occasionally buy a fully made potion from the potion shop, which has rotating stock.

This list details every curse, its effects, common triggers, and the unique cheats to both enable and cleanse it from your spellcaster.

9 Curse Of Awkward Embraces

The curse of awkward embraces is about to make your social life a little scary. Your sim will find themselves unable to resist hugging and touching others, regardless of their usual feelings about it.

This socially awkward curse can be activated by a failed curse removal potion, a potion drinking failure or by losing duels.

The curse can be equipped with the cheat traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_TouchyFeely and removed with traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_TouchyFeely.

8 Curse of Infectious Laughter

If you love a good laugh then the curse of infectious laughter is ready to take it to the next level. Your sim will find themselves not only laughing uncontrollably but also passing on the laughter to others around them. They will also laugh even when it’s incredibly inappropriate to do so.

This curse can be caused by reaching max charge on your spellcasting charge meter or by a failed curse removal potion.

You can give your sim the gift of neverending laughter with the cheat traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_InfectiousLaughter and take it away again with traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_InfectiousLaughter

7 Curse of Repulsiveness

For those who want to play a haggard green witch with warts on their face and an appearance that scares those around them then this curse has you covered. The curse of repulsiveness will turn your sim into a stereotypical wicked witch, whose appearance will instill both terror and disgust in nearby sims.

This altered appearance is caused by potion mixing failures and curse removal potion failures.

If you want to be the wicked witch of the west you can enter testingcheats on followed by traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_Repulsiveness followed by traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_Repulsiveness when you’d like to return to your usual appearance.

6 Curse of Scrambled Spells

If you get too mixed up then you’ll begin to lose control of your magic. The curse of scrambled spells will mean anything you cast may have random and powerful side effects. This curse is unpredictable and slightly terrifying, while also being great fun to play.

Overcharge failures, spellcasting failures, and curse removal potion failures are all causes of this particularly chaotic curse.

For players who wish to embrace the unknown, you can become uncontrollable with the cheat traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_WildMagic and then return your mind to normal with traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_WildMagic

5 Curse of The Night Wraith

Is your sim afraid to sleep at night? If not they will be soon if the curse of the night wraith takes effect on them. This curse summons an actual wraith, that takes the form of a ghost. It will drain your energy then follow you around, rendering you unable to sleep. Other side effects can include loss of bladder control so you’ll want to cure this one quickly.

The curse is caused by overcharge failures and curse removal potion failures so keep an eye on that meter if you don’t want a creepy shadow.

If you need to summon this sinister ghoul then traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_NightStalker will do the job. To banish it simply type traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_NightStalker

4 Curse of Uncleansable Stench

This curse doesn’t just make you feel like you skipped a shower, it gives your Spellcaster a gym stink that cannot be cleansed. Showering will do nothing and you’ll smell so bad that people in your company will actually barf.

Becoming socially repulsive by means of excessive stench can happen after a potion drinking failure, potion-making failure or a failed curse removal potion. Presumably, those potions smell pretty bad.

If you want people to maintain their distance then use traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_SweatyStench to acquire a stinky smog. Once you’re ready to shower, traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_SweatyStench will have you ready to go out in public again.

3 Curse of Unwarranted Hostility

Every day can be neighborhood brawl day when you have the curse of unwarranted hostility. Sims will take a disliking to your face and feel the uncontrollable urge to punch it immediately. Starting fights will be an everyday activity until you shift this painful curse.

It’s caused by losing duels or failing to remove a curse with a potion so be careful who you pick on when dueling or your fights will be taking a step up.

If, for some reason, you want your face to become punchable then traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_PunchableFace will fulfill your desires. Once you feel the need for people to keep their fists to themselves then traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_PunchableFace will lift the curse.

2 Curse of Uncontrollable Charge

Spellcaster charge has both positive and negative effects. As you become more charged your spells become more powerful. However, the greater the charge the greater the chance of spells backfiring, curses triggering and you hitting overload.

Magical charge can be tracked in your charge meter above your needs but sims will also gain a visual effect when the charge is high. This curse increases your charge gains so you’ll hit overload quicker.

For those who want to ramp up charge quicker then traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_FountainOfMagic will give you the power. If you overload and find yourself frazzled out then traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_FountainOfMagic removes the curse.

1 Hex of The Duelist

If you like winning duels then the hex of the duelist is one you’ll want to remove quickly. You’ll find it very easy to challenge people to duels and have them accept but it will be much harder to win. The rewards for winning are also reduced, making the whole experience very frustrating.

This curse is caused by losing duels or failing to cure a curse with a potion. If you duel before you are powerful enough, be warned that you may struggle to duel again unless you remove this hex.

Despite being called a hex this is a curse which can be activated with the cheat traits.equip_trait trait_Curses_HexofDuelist. If you’ve had enough of losing then traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_HexofDuelist will restore your dueling powers.
