Following the announcement on the new series of third-party focused Nintendo Direct Minis, Atlus announced that not only would a remaster of Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne be coming to the Nintendo Switch next year, it has also been confirmed that a PS4 version is in development as well.

Confirmed by @Wario64 on Twitter, the remaster is bringing the PS2 classic to current gen consoles with an HD upgrade to the visuals and a tentative release of 2021 with English voice acting. The game will be first released in Japan with Japanese Voice acting in October of this year.

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD wasn’t the only SMT game shown in the Direct-Mini, as Shin Megami Tensei 5 was finally shown as well to the surprise of fans of the SMT series. Shin Megami Tensei 5  which was given a lengthy trailer during the Direct also has a release window of 2021 and is still exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Shin Megami Tensei 5’s trailer comes after a long period of silence from Atlus regarding the title. Last seen in a Nintendo Direct back in 2017, Atlus has also said that Shin Megami Tensei 5 will have a simultaneous global launch when it’s released. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster’s unveiling follows a survey Atlus released to fans earlier this year, gauging interest in ports games in both the SMT series and Persona series. The survey has fans super excited for many games left on older consoles in both games series.

The announcement of the remaster comes to many fans delight as a Twitter campaign was started earlier in 2020 to gain the attention of Atlus.  The campaign’s intention was to show support of a possible remaster of Shin Megami Tensei 3, though Atlus never publicly acknowledged the campaign prior to the survey.

The effort Atlus is putting into porting over its many beloved games seems to be paying off. Both Catherine: Full Body and Persona 4: Golden have seen ports this year with Persona 4: Golden being ported over to PC and having since sold very well on the platform, though Atlus still wants fans to be mindful of spoilers for those who have never played the game before.

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster will release in 2021 on Nintendo Switch and PS4.
