After finishing and launching Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015, Crystal Dynamics didn’t waste any time getting started on Lara Croft’s next adventure. Thanks to a Square Enix employee looking at a PowerPoint presentation on the subway, we’ve known for awhile now that the next Tomb Raider will be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but now we know when fans can get their hands on the still unannounced game.
If one checks the source code for the Tomb Raider website, which has been counting down to a reveal that will take place on March 15 at 6am Pacific, they will discover that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is slated to release on September 14 of this year.
Unfortunately, further details on Shadow of the Tomb Raider can’t be found in its source code. We aren’t sure what systems it will be available for, or if it will have another period of timed-exclusivity with Xbox like we saw with Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, with the game set to be officially announced tomorrow, answers should come sooner rather than later.
With the Shadow of the Tomb Raider reveal, March 15 is shaping up to be a big day for Tomb Raider fans. Not only do fans have to look forward to details on the next game, but they can also check out Thursday night preview showings for the Tomb Raider movie. While it hasn’t exactly wowed critics, it has earned decent reviews for a video game movie, and looks mostly faithful to the source material, so it will be interesting to see how it does as the box office.
If the new Tomb Raider movie earns enough money, then it’s likely that it will be followed up by film adaptations of Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. However, it remains to be seen how difficult Shadow of the Tomb Raider would be to adapt to the big screen, since we know next to nothing about the game except that it will be taking a new approach to the series.
Details on Shadow of the Tomb Raider should be made available tomorrow morning. In the meantime, fans can speculate as to what Lara Croft’s next adventure has in store for her.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider will reportedly launch on September 14 for unspecified platforms.
