Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was noted for its difficult gameplay and impressive visuals. As a result, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was critically acclaimed and plenty of fans of souls-like games picked the title up. One area that players wanted to see in the title was an online component, yet it was entirely missing from the game. Now a mod by LukeYui looks set to remedy this and allow players to play alongside each other.
Many players have claimed that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice should include a multiplayer feature and the developer FromSoftware is not a stranger to online multiplayer. In fact, with the game using elements from other FromSoftware games like Bloodbourne and Dark Souls, players were surprised when it was made clear that no multiplayer features were coming to the game. Nonetheless, this mod seems to make multiplayer a reality.
The mod that is listed on Nexus Mods adds a co-op mode and a player vs. player option. The modder attempted to replicate the Dark Souls co-op and although they stress that they are “not a professional game development company” it seems they have done an impressive job. The mod entitled ‘Sekiro Online’ allows up to 6 players to be in a party (1 host and 5 phantoms) and includes a co-op feature that allows players to team up.
Furthermore, the PVP element consists of fighting each other with prosthetic tools, and levels will be adjusted when matchmaking to leave the host and the invader or phantoms the same level. Finally, players can invade a game and “enter an unsuspecting person’s world as a spirit of vengeance, and fight to the death.” This will undoubtedly excite players who have been hungry for a multiplayer Shadows Die Twice experience.
There are plenty of mods for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice but adding a feature that many fans wanted will likely make ‘Sekiro Online’ a favorite. There are a couple of issues that players should be wary of though, occasionally the game will crash when a player joins and players may slide around when they join which can be solved by restarting. Also, the game uses player to player servers so latency should be expected.
Despite these drawbacks, this mod will please most fans and it is an incredible achievement by the modder. For players who want company as they experience one of the hardest games of 2019, this mod will be perfect.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
