Much of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is about facing challenges head-on, and using Sekiro’s best skills to defeat the powerful opponents that stand in the shinobi’s way. However, when a player first encounters the giant snake near Ashina Castle, it may quickly become clear that straightforward offense is ill-advised.
Fortunately, there is a path that can be used to get past the snake alive and well. Read on to find out.
How to Get Past the Great Serpent
Begin by swinging from the edge of the cliff to the area where three lanterns are located.
From there, pass the lanterns until reaching the farthest edge of this rocky area.
Now, players will need to line up their jump, hugging the wall if necessary, in order to plunge down to the area below.
Here, players will find a cave to enter. Do so quickly, as the snake can still cause damage in this location.
Exit the cave and go left. Now, make use of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’s stealth ability to hide in the tall grass. When the snake is extended and looking in a different direction, head across to the next grassy area.
From this location, players should allow the snake to see them, and then dodge its strike. This should offer ample time to hug the wall and shuffle across the narrow path.
Once across, make sure to know how to sprint in Sekiro. Players will want to reach the tent (Palanquin) and interact with it as quickly as possible. Once players are inside, the snake will not strike.
Striking the Great Serpent and Escaping
Now, simply wait until the snake has its eye locked on Sekiro. Eventually, a deathblow indicator will come up, and players will be able to stab the beast in the eye.
Quickly run out of the Palanquin, and begin a series of three grapples that start at the cliffs behind. Beware, the Great Serpent will attempt to attack during these grapples, but once across, players should be free and clear of the foe.
While getting past the snake may not be as challenging as learning how to beat Headless, the Giant Serpent can still act as one of the game’s many roadblocks for those do not know how to approach it. However, the path outlined above is a straightforward way to bypass this opponent and continue on the journey
