Big things appear to be coming for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th anniversary.
So far, 2020 has been decently notable for the Blue Blur. Paramount’s live-action movie released in February and has done nothing but shatter box office expectations. IDW has a well-received comic book run going. And, as for big new games, Sonic team head Takashi Iikuza confirmed that the next major installment was in production at last year’s SXSW. More Sonic news was supposed to happen at this year’s SXSW before the event was cancelled. But, although things have been quiet, it seems like things have been brewing behind the scenes.
In an interview with Gaming Trend, SEGA chief brand officer Ivo Gerscovich was asked whether fans can expect anything coming up in the next few months as the character approaches his 30th anniversary. To this, Gerscovich replied: “We have some exciting news that we can’t wait to share. But you’ll have to stay tuned for details.”
It sounds like SEGA has big plans for Sonic. Considering there is a major Sonic game in production, it’s fair to speculate that this news might provide fans with more details. However, we will have to wait and see.
It has been nearly three years since Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces released, so the franchise is definitely due for its next main game.
