Is there anything cooler than the tattoos that adorn the characters in the Yakuza series? That’s mostly a rhetorical question because the answer is no. Still, this new line of Yakuza themed apparel from Insert Coin is pretty close to having one of those awesome ink designs…just without all of the pain associated with the healing process.
Sega and Insert Coin announced today that the two companies have teamed up to produce some jackets based on the iconic tattoos from Sega’s hit crime series about an ex-con who has a heart of gold. Going for around $85 USD, you can purchase yourself a coat with the tattoo design from characters Kiryu, Majima, Goda, Nishikiyama, and Saejima. There are also two t-shirts available: one for fictional city Kamurocho and the other for Majima construction.
The announcement is actually for the introduction of three new jackets, but I’m using this as an excuse to inform everyone about Yakuza clothing. I honestly didn’t know these existed and now I’m getting a Majima jacket. I have an eye-patch ready and I dropped shampoo in my eye this morning, so it stings like it was recently removed. I might be taking this a little too seriously.
Insert Coin is a company established in 2010 that focuses on creating apparel related to video games. From the official website, you can find t-shirts, hoodies, and jackets from games like DOOM, Wolfenstein, Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid, and the aforementioned Yakuza.
Based out of England, shipping prices can be a little brutal for anyone living in the United States. Still, the quality is supposed to be very high and you’re unlikely to find anything remotely similar at a local store. This is specialty stuff that is unique to the very fiber.
If you’re worried about grabbing something right now, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Insert Coin doesn’t produce limited time stuff. Stock may be low on certain items (Kiryu’s jacket is mostly sold out, for instance), but any popular pieces should see a return. That gives you some time to decide if walking around town like the ultimate badass is worth it.
