Virtua Fighter 5 is getting a remaster, in case you hadn’t heard. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega AM2 are porting the entire game over to the Dragon Engine, the same one that powers Yakuza 6, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and probably will power Lost Judgment when it arrives in September.
This engine swap comes with a visual update for the PS4, including full HD graphics, new lighting, better shaders, improved textures, and updated stage designs.
You can see it all in action in Ultimate Showdown’s latest trailer. It’s quite the upgrade compared to almost 15 years ago.
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will also come with new esports functionality. Players will be able to create 16-player round-robin tournaments that even allow spectators to watch in real-time. It’s all part of Sega’s 60th anniversary and a renewed push towards esports.
Sadly, the game is exclusive to the PS4 when it arrives on June 1. On the plus side, if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you’ll get the game free as soon as it arrives.
