Supermarket Shriek was first released for Xbox One in June of 2019 by developers Billy Goat Entertainment and publishers PQube. At the time, the game was praised for its chaotic, physics-based gameplay, falling into a lineage that includes Gary’s Mod and Goat Simulator (Supermarket Shriek features a goat as well, linking it even more directly to this particular predecessor). Now, just over a year after its initial release exclusively for the Xbox One, Supermarket Shriek has been announced for the Switch, PS4 and PC. These versions will all come out later this year and include new content.

Gameplay in Supermarket Shriek centers around navigating a shopping cart through supermarket obstacle courses. The player-controlled cart is piloted in-game by a business-y man and the aforementioned goat. To navigate the shopping cart, the human character’s scream translates into a left turn, a goat scream into a right turn, and the two characters screaming simultaneously functions as forward acceleration. PQube describes it as a sort of stylized rowboat, with each character’s screams acting in the same manner as left and right oars.

Its levels are mostly all store interiors of one sort or another, though full of a variety of obstacles that would be unfeasible in the real world. Each of these levels must be navigated within a set amount of time. Challenge comes from each level’s variety of obstacles and an imprecise control scheme making navigating them difficult.

The upcoming multi-platform re-release of Supermarket Shriek will feature 38 levels that can be navigated solo or with a friend in a co-op game mode. On the PS4 and PC versions of the game, two players with access to a microphone can control the game by literally emulating the man and goat and actually “screaming” to move the in-game shopping cart. Also included are three multiplayer PvP modes that can be played by between two and four people.

More information about Supermarket Shriek can be found on PQube’s official website. A precise release date for its upcoming Switch, PS4 and PC release has yet to be announced beyond its coming out some time later this year.
