Last summer, the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film successfully adapted the creepy children’s books of the same name for the big screen, earning positive reviews and becoming a box office success. Unsurprisingly, this success is now leading to a sequel film, with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 officially a go, with the first film’s director, Andre Ovredal, returning to direct the sequel.

Legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will also be returning for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2, as the movie will reportedly be based on an original story he wrote as opposed to one of the stories from the children’s book series. Plot details on that story remain scarce at the time of this writing, and it’s also unclear if Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 will retain any of the cast or characters from the first film.

One other detail about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been revealed, though, and that is that the script based on del Toro’s story will be written by Dan and Kevin Hageman, the duo best known for their work on The LEGO Movie.

Considering the success of the first film, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has a lot to live up to. It will be interesting to see if it lives up to expectations once it hits theaters, though no release date has been announced.
