SNK wasn’t content with just one piece of Samurai Shodown news today. After revealing the date for the upcoming PC port of its 2019 reboot/sequel, SNK has announced that the Samurai Shodown NEOGEO Collection will be launching on PC this June. It will be heading to both Steam and the Epic Games Store, but there’s a condition attached to that.

On June 11, 2020, you’ll be able to grab the compilation pack for free for one week. After that on June 18, the bundle will return to its $40 price tag and become available on Steam. If PC isn’t your bag, then you’ll be able to nab this retro collection on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on July 28. That’s one hell of a wait between releases.

At least as far as this collection goes, it promises to be excellent. It will include not only the first five installments of the Samurai Shodown series but will feature the vastly improved Samurai Shodown V Special and an unreleased port of the game called Samurai Shodown V Perfect.

The collection will be released both physically and digitally for PS4 and Switch while the Xbox One version is only getting a digital release. There isn’t any kind of special edition planned for this, so you won’t need to pre-order to grab exclusive swag. You’re just getting all seven included titles on a disc or cartridge for your shelf.

The port is being handled by Digital Eclipse and will contain all of the expected modern flourishes that retro compilations have. Each title will pack in online play and have a gallery showcasing concept art and promo images. The included museum packs in a bunch of music tracks, design documents, and videotaped interviews with the development teams.

It sounds like a tremendously awesome collection. We’ll need to wait and see how the netcode pans out, but the $40 price for these classic fighters isn’t bad. You can currently buy a lot of these games separately on the Switch eShop and PSN Store, but a complete bundle is a more enticing prospect. It would certainly save you money if you wanted to own every title in the series.
