It’s been almost a year since Samurai Shodown released on PC via the Epic Games Store, and that was after SNK said that they wouldn’t sign an exclusive deal with anybody. Guess everybody has a price, and Epic Games was able to meet it and secure that one-year exclusive deal for their new store.

But that year is almost up, and that means it’s time for Samurai Shodown to hit the big time, and that means Steam.

SNK just confirmed that Samurai Shodown will be released on Valve’s digital sales platform on June 14. Along with the Steam release, Samurai Shodown will also get a brand new DLC character with plenty of history in the series.

Shiro Tokisada Amakusa will be the third character to arrive as part of the Season 3 character pass for Samurai Shodown. Named after a historical figure who led a rebellion of Roman Catholics against the Shogunate in the early 1600s, Amakusa has been one of the franchise’s main villains since the very first game. He’s portrayed as a sort of evil sorcerer with the ability to teleport and shoot fireballs, although the historical figure was more of a typical samurai than a magician.

Samurai Shodown’s fourth Season 3 character will be from the Guilty Gear series and is expected to release sometime this summer. They’ll join Cham Cham and Hibiki Takane from The Last Blade 2.

If recent releases are anything to go by, Steam truly is the platform to beat at the moment. Both Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Resident Evil Village broke records for their respective franchises after releasing on Steam earlier this month, and that’s in addition to holding top sales positions even before either game was officially released.

Samurai Shodown is a fine fighter to add to your Steam library, so here’s hoping that SNK finds some success on the premiere PC platform.
