It’s no surprise that more people are buying game consoles during the COVID-19 pandemic, but data from e-commerce platform MDG shows just how much people are going out to buy gaming gear during their forced time at home.

According to the data, there has been an increase of 263% in people buying gaming bundles this April, including a 262% increase in those buying HDTV bundles that include a gaming console.

“In regards to gaming devices and consoles, the most popular right now is the Nintendo Switch,” the report says. “This is likely because it’s the newest console, so it will be interesting to see what happens towards the end of the year as both Microsoft & Sony announced last spring that they will release new consoles for the 2020 holiday season.”

The report states that the likely reason for the focus on the Nintendo Switch is the simple fact that it’s the newest console out there. MDG says it’ll be interested in seeing how Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles will fare when they release at the end of the year– a time when the stay at home orders will almost certainly be lifted.

“However, because of the current crisis, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft and Sony are forced to change these release dates,” the report also noted.
