Word around the villages of Hyrule is that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword could be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Skyward Sword debuted on the Nintendo Wii in 2011 and followed Twilight Princess in the Zelda anthology and marked the sixteenth entry into the anthology. Skyward Sword was a bit of a departure from its predecessors in many ways, maybe most notably is the game’s setting. Skyward Sword doesn’t take place in the Hyrule Zelda fans had grown so familiar with; instead, it takes place in a city in the clouds called Skyloft. The prophecy at the beginning of the game explains that a war on the surface drove the Goddess to create a new home for the humans, in the sky, to keep them safe from the Darkness and also to protect her own power.
The plot of the game is pretty classic for Legend of Zelda, Zelda and Link are torn apart when Zelda is kidnapped for her connection to some higher power and Link is sent to the surface, armed with the Master Sword and a Navi-esque companion named Fi, to save the day from the Darkness.
Because it was released on the Wii, Skyward Sword was the most interactive Zelda game to date, but that turned out to be something of a double-edged sword. Players had to swing their Wii-motes like swords in order to do combat, which required a special expansion to the controller. This could prove difficult at times: recalibration created a problem, aim was difficult, and performing exact moves was tricky. All of these issues created some mixed reviews. But now, it seems that there is a little glimmer of hope for more succinct gameplay on the Switch.
There have been murmurs about Skyward Sword coming to the Switch for a while, but most of that has just been wishful thinking. With the Breath of the Wild sequel probably not coming to gamers in 2020, Zelda fans are hungry for something to hold them over until new content can be released.
