Some fans of Death Stranding have compared the experience of playing the game to watching a film or reading a novel. They may have been closer than they realized. According to unconfirmed reports, developer Hideo Kojima is working on a follow up to Death Stranding, and the project may be taking the form of a manga.
AestheticGamer didn’t name his sources, but noted that they’re someone inside Kojima’s camp. He ended the tweet by emphasizing that everything he’s heard so far are just rumors. Gamers have been burned by false rumors before, which is probably why AestheticGamer is hesitant to say anything definitive. It’s possible that the upcoming project could be Death Stranding DLC, or end up being a new game entirely. Still, a manga version of Death Stranding seems like the kind of weird and wonderful project that Kojima would embark upon.
Manga and video games are deeply linked. The Pokemon manga, which inspired the popular series of games, just came to an end last year. A manga follow up to Death Stranding makes sense, as it would allow Kojima to flex his literary muscles. However, Kojima is famous for giving players something unanticipated, so until there’s an official announcement, fans should expect the unexpected.
Death Stranding is out now for PS4 with a PC release coming June 2.
