Although missing in action amid the Ubisoft Forward event, besides a sly appearance in the mobile Elite Squad trailer, Sam Fisher appears to be making a much-needed resurgence. It wouldn’t be a Splinter Cell outing without a bevy of secrecy, yet the voice actor for Agent Fisher himself has come forward to release the oh-so-sensitive information: Splinter Cell 8 is definitely happening.

Many Splinter Cell rumors have been swirling over the past several years, with four supposed games on the docket being outright canceled, yet this new bit of information seems particularly promising. In an interview with foreign gaming website Multiplayer.it, Luca Ward, the Italian voice actor for Sam Fisher, alludes to an upcoming return for the NSA special agent. Their conversation touched on everything from his work as Keanu Reeves’ Italian substitute in Cyberpunk 2077 to how the ongoing pandemic has affected the industry:

While this may not be the first time Ward has hinted at a new Splinter Cell game, as evidenced by the remarks he made all the way back in early 2019, he explains how some information can “sometimes be too premature.” He adds in utter Sam Fisher confidence, “But I am sure that Splinter Cell will return, this is a fact.”

“There is this return of Splinter Cell which should take place I think for a conclusive episode, but I’m not sure about this, however they have not yet figured out whether to do it in 2021. Before it had to be 2020, then what happened and in 2020 several big projects got stuck. Others went on like Cyberpunk 2077 on which I have almost finished working.”

Ward isn’t the only one positing a forthcoming Splinter Cell resurgence, as the retailer GameStop referenced an unannounced title back in September. There’s also the highly suspicious but oh-so-telling return of ex-Splinter Cell director to Ubisoft earlier this year. Judging by these reports, it’s relatively clear Sam Fisher is making a comeback in the only way he knows how: in absolute secrecy and under total darkness.

Though Ubisoft may not have confirmed these leaks, it may well be high time to get those night vision goggles all juiced up.
