About a couple of months ago, a report from VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb asserted that the next installment in the Battlefield franchise will be set during World War II as another main entry in the long-running first-person shooter series. Following this, a supposed leak of information from roughly mid-February has gained traction online by sharing a slew of details about the forthcoming sequel that potentially unveils its content such as classes, maps, combat, and much more.

As seen in the video below from the YouTuber known as Drakesden, the untitled Battlefield World War II project will supposedly contain 7 factions at launch including Great Britain, the United States, Free French Forces, the Third Reich, the Kingdom of Italy, USSR, and Imperial Japan. Furthermore, if the leak is to be believed, then the game will have 10 base game maps along with a free map shortly after release, and will contain a Premium Pass of which the content has yet to be determined.

According to Drakesden, combat will be switched up a bit from Battlefield 1 with the forthcoming sequel having a focus more so on skill shooting due to the removal of random bullet deviation and variants of weapons. Purportedly, the reason for these eliminations is to make way for the return of gun attachments such as suppressors, sights, scopes, and more that will facilitate players’ ability to go into matches with a more strategic edge in certain instances.

Drakesden’s information then goes on to state that the 2018 edition of Battlefield will feature the four classes of Assault, Support, Recon, and Engineer. The YouTuber also maintains that Elite Classes and Behemoths will return, as will Operations and Incursions, while player model cosmetic skins will make their debut for the first time in franchise history. When it comes to vehicles, the leak suggests that they will operate in a similar fashion to those in Battlefield 3 and 4, with vehicles including customizable tanks, Jeeps, planes, and more.

Last, but certainly not least, Drakesden says that the new Battlefield World War II game will be revealed in May, drop a beta in August, and have an official release date sometime in October, which seems rather plausible when one takes into account the scheduled marketing of previous installments. Of course, bearing all of this in mind, one must preserve a healthy dose of skepticism, especially since none of these claims have been verified by DICE or Electronic Arts. With this being the case, we will likely learn whether or not most of these rumored details are true from the EA Play event at E3 2018.

The next Battlefield game has yet to be officially announced.
