Agent 47 is coming back, and this time it won’t be just for another episode.
We already know that IO Interactive will bring Hitman back for yet another game-of-the-year-style bundle later this spring with Hitman: Definitive Edition. That game will bring all six episodes under one roof, along with the additional content released in the Game Of The Year edition released in 2017, as well as previously PlayStation 4 exclusive mission Sarajevo Six and Elusive Targets.
It was beginning to look like IO was running out of ideas for everyone’s favorite international assassin, but now there’s news that there may be a new Hitman in the works.
Straight from the sunny shores of South Korea comes this application to the South Korean Game Rating Board which lists a mysterious new title–Hitman: Sniper Assassin.
This isn’t the first sniper game under the Hitman moniker. The first was a mobile game released in June 2015, which was basically the same as most shooting gallery games except that later you’d use your silent sniper rifle to cause your target to die from non-bullet related injuries, like falling to their death after blowing the floor out from under them.
The Korean rating agency confirms that whatever Hitman: Sniper Assassin turns out to be it’ll definitely be for PlayStation 4. It will also be an “action” game, and be rated for 12 to 15-year-olds, although we’re sure people much older are still allowed to play it.
This also isn’t the first time we’ve heard the name Hitman: Sniper Assassin. The name came up in Australia earlier this year with much of the same info. The Aussies did say their rating would be MA 15+ for strong violence and mild physical intimacy, possibly with a gun.
It makes sense for a Hitman game to limit itself to sniping on a mobile platform, but on a proper game console it seems like hamstringing itself unnecessarily. Sniper rifles are always an important tool in Agent 47’s arsenal, but his bread is always buttered using twin silver Colt .45s–taking those away from him is like stealing his children.
Of course, it’s entirely possible the game won’t come out at all and this speculation is entirely a moot point. Either way, we’ll report more once IO Interactive decides to spill the beans on Agent 47’s whereabouts.
