Despite taking a lengthy leave of absence years prior to its release, Crash Bandicoot came back with a bang when Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy launched on consoles in mid-2017. Not only was the remake a giant success with fans who had been clamoring to see the beloved PlayStation mascot return to screens, but the series’ return also drew a lot of success commercially, with the remake topping the charts upon release.
It seemed only a matter of time until Crash Bandicoot returned in a brand-new, original title, and according to new rumors, it appears as though the orange mascot could indeed be making his grand return in the coming months. Reported on Twitter by Portuguese journalist Guru, it appears a new entry in the series will be on its way very soon, with the industry figure claiming that the game has been in the works for a whopping three years.
Alongside that, it appears the title is intended to ship in tandem with the PlayStation 5, with Guru also claiming that the game will be fully-unveiled very soon. Bringing Crash Bandicoot back to consoles for the launch of the PlayStation 5 feels like a brilliant idea on Sony’s part, especially if the company’s idea is to entice players in with major exclusives. It is worth noting, however, that Guru does claim that they’re unsure of how exclusive the game will be, likely hinting that the title could be a timed exclusive. This would make sense with how Activision’s handled the license in the past, with the company porting the N.Sane Trilogy to other consoles shortly after its exclusive debut on PlayStation 4.
Alongside these claims, it seems the report has been corroborated by Crash Bandicoot Clubhouse; a community Twitter page dedicated to finding new rumors about upcoming Crash Bandicoot projects. After summarizing the tweet from Guru, the page was asked how reliable the journalist is as a source. The account responded, “Haven’t looked into but from what I can tell it kinda adds up a little if you think about it as we know logically a new game is coming this year and that they have to leave themselves 5 - 7 months room for marketing so that means the reveal needs to happen either April or May.”
While it’s worth taking these rumors with a grain of salt until they’re fully confirmed, it seems many are painting this new leak to be likely, especially as it lines up with prior rumors. However, it seems fans won’t have to wait long to find out if the rumor does have any truth to it, with Guru claiming Activision is getting ready to launch its advertising campaign sooner rather than later.
A new Crash Bandicoot game is rumored to be in development.
