Last month, rumors started swirling that BioWare and Electronic Arts were moving forward with a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster, updating the three original games in the series for modern platforms. Nothing official has been announced to date, but now another source is adding credibility to the rumor.

Gamereactor’s Eirik Hyldbakk Furu’s sources say that the Mass Effect Trilogy remaster is scheduled to launch this fall, taking the place of a brand new blockbuster EA game that would usually launch in that time-frame. Furu says that they “wouldn’t be surprised” if the Mass Effect Trilogy remaster was announced at the upcoming EA Play event, which is currently scheduled to take place on June 18 at 4pm PT.

If the Mass Effect Trilogy remaster is announced at EA Play, one has to wonder if it will include PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. After all, Sony and Microsoft are launching their next-generation consoles this holiday season, so it seems like getting remastered versions of these classic games on the new consoles would be a great opportunity for BioWare and EA. If nothing else, the Mass Effect Trilogy could go a long way in padding the early libraries for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

While the Mass Effect Trilogy remaster would definitely get a lot of BioWare fans excited, it’s safe to say many will be hoping for news on some new BioWare projects instead. Right now, BioWare is busy rebooting Anthem, the failed looter-shooter it launched in 2019, as well as working on a big new game in one of its most popular franchises.

BioWare has been working on Dragon Age 4 for years now, and many are hoping to get an update on the game at EA Play. Not much has been seen of Dragon Age 4 since the game was first teased at The Game Awards in 2018, so many feel as though they are overdue for an update on its status.

Others may be hoping to learn of BioWare’s future Mass Effect plans. However, the poor reception to Mass Effect Andromeda means that fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for news on that front any time soon.
