Microsoft is gearing up for a slew of awesome reveals at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. The main preview is expected to be a first-time look into the next-gen world of Halo Infinite, but there is another series that still remains in the far back of the history books. A bevy of ever-surmounting rumors, however, suggest that one of Microsoft’s most beloved gaming series may well be leaving its fairy tale world behind for the real one in the form of an in-engine reveal this Thursday.

Move aside Master Chief, it’s Fable’s time to shine.

Almost akin to a fable itself, the so-called Fable IV is a title almost every long-term Xbox fan has been dying to experience. No main entry for the series on the Xbox One, aside from a remaster and a lackluster card game, left many Fable gamers empty-handed. Yet new reports may prove a return to the series has been in the works and is slated to make its worldwide premiere during the Xbox Games Showcase this Thursday.

Industry insider Klobrille says on Resetera:

Klobrille is a well-known Xbox games leaker who has had a relatively proven track record in the past, but given that this rumor was discovered on an Xbox gaming forum, it’s best to take the info with a pinch of salt. Though, many others have been admitting to a new Fable game in the works, such as industry insider and YouTube star Alanah Pearce. Her words amid the debut episode of Kinda Funny’s Xbox podcast may have more than a little merit:

“Just to get that expectation right, I don’t think anyone should expect a Fable announcement with a gameplay demo like what Halo Infinite will do.

I guess this will rather be in the Horizon-II-trailer-like ballpark, so an in-engine trailer but somewhat indicative of what to expect.”

Other swirling leaks and rumors uplift these bold claims, as evidenced by the Fable social media placeholders, in addition to Pearce’s own words on the series being developed by Playground Games. Sounds like an odd choice for an open-world fantasy experience, given the UK-based developer’s main attraction being Forza Horizon, though previous leaks dating all the way back to 2018 prove otherwise. Interestingly, this Playground Games rumor itself was first brought to the attention of the masses by none other than Klobrille, who at the time was believed to be referring to Electric Square studio.

“Well, I know Fable is being made. I’ve said that a few times, it’s not been announced, but there’s just too many Microsoft employees that have told me on the sly cause I’m excited about it.”

The rumor mill keeps on spinning, yet what is and is not true remains to be seen. Tune in to the Xbox Games Showcase this Thursday and (hopefully) discover the next adventure in the Fable series.
