Don’t give up hope for that Switch edition of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time just yet, Nintendo/marsupial fans. A leak from the game’s official website suggests it just might be coming to the hybrid handheld after all.
Now, there was a time when Mario and Crash wouldn’t be seen dead in each other’s company. One-time Sony stalwart Crash Bandicoot used to be a PlayStation exclusive, until the original Naughty Dog trilogy and excellent spin-off Crash Team Racing were done-and-dusted. Times change, though, and now the furry funster is just as at home on Nintendo platforms as Sonic the Hedgehog.
Switch fans have been enjoying this newfound spirit of détente with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, both of which launched on all current-gen consoles. They were solid Switch ports, too, which can’t be said for all multi-format releases.
With that said, though, remasters are one thing, but who wants to miss out on brand-new games? It’s About Time is currently slated for a October 2, 2020 release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but no mention has yet been made of a Switch port… until now.
As reported by Nintendo Life, a Nintendo Switch buying option appears on the game’s official site, in a manner of speaking. It isn’t live, but a little digging in the source code reveals that it does exist. As promising as this may be (it is the official site, after all) – fans shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet, as this could simply be a mistake.
It can’t be taken as read that the game’s definitely coming to Nintendo Switch, and there’s no telling how much of a wait there might be for it if it does. The N. Sane Trilogy, for instance, certainly took its time in making the run, jump, and wump to Switch.
Regardless, though, it would certainly be a welcome addition to the system’s catalog. If it is to be ported, the important thing is that it’ll be a worthy port. Crash’s great, glorious comeback deserves nothing less, after all. The Bandicoot faithful can only sit tight and hope for some confirmation.
