Destiny 2 developer Bungie may be developing a medieval fantasy RPG, new job posts have revealed. The company is expected to make a big announcement tomorrow about the next season of Destiny 2 content but it seems that Bungie is thinking much further ahead.

Bungie has three job listings on its site that seem to offer information about its new IP. A listing for an incubation investment designer said that “living inside a giant database of hundreds of baubles, weapons, and armor” should be “nothing new” to the hired Bungie developer and that they will also be comfortable “building a system to cleverly distribute those items in a necromancer’s dungeon.” The same listing talks about an RPG game system and being “the glue between the sword and the reward” and confirms that the game will feature loot and in-game items.

Another listing for senior combat designer asks for someone who “hours hitting the combat dummies in MMOs with every ability in your spellbook” and playing competitive games. The designer will be able to “dive deep into combat systems such as AI, weapons, armor, and abilities to make them sing.” Players of Destiny 2 love digging into the game to find the best subclass and to learn which weapons are best against which enemy, and it seems like Bungie’s next game will offer more of this.

A listing for an incubation art director also teases “something comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters.” While Destiny has some more serious NPCs, like Lord Saladin, the series is also full of more ridiculous moments like Cayde’s chicken, Colonel or Peter Dinklage saying that a wizard “came from the moon.” That humor is one of the reasons why fans like the series so much and that is unlikely to go away in Bungie’s next title.

It’s unclear if this new game is Matter, the name which Bungie trademarked some time ago. Since filing that trademark, Bungie may have chosen a new name for its new IP or Matter and this medieval fantasy RPG could be two different things.

It’s also not known when Bungie will announce this game. With so many Destiny 3 rumors, it seems more likely that this game will come before Matter. Many of the job listings for this new IP also feature the word “incubation,” suggesting that the game is in early development, and fans of Bungie and Destiny 2 may not get to play it for some time.
