So there might be another big Xbox reveal this month, and it’ll have everything to do with the Xbox Game Pass.
August is shaping up to be a big month for Microsoft. Xbox head Phil Spencer said that there should be another games showcase later this month that might even officially reveal the Xbox Series S, which was unofficially revealed earlier this week thanks to a leaked next-gen controller package.
Or the showcase might be more Game Pass focused. According to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, we’ll be shown “yet another big reason to get Game Pass in the next 2-to-3 weeks.”
What might that reason be? No idea. There’s already plenty of reasons to get Game Pass on either Xbox or Windows PC, what with the free games, fast download speeds, and upcoming xCloud streaming. How much more convincing do people need?
Grubb added that it won’t be a specific game that gets announced, and it’s definitely not going to be Cyberpunk 2077.
Honestly, that doesn’t leave us with many options on what Microsoft could be announcing. Maybe it’s that Game Pass will arrive on the Nintendo Switch after all, or they’re giving a big discount, or that Game Pass will start streaming in 4K even though very few people have an internet connection capable of streaming a game in 4K.
Or maybe they’re dropping prices. Franky, anything seems plausible in 2020.
We’re still waiting on that August announcement but we might not have to wait much longer. Phil Spencer is going to be on the internet’s premiere (and only) talk show, Animal Talking, later this week. It’d be patently bizarre to make a major announcement while playing a Nintendo game, but like I said, anything is plausible in 2020. Maybe that Switch/Game Pass marriage is more likely than we thought.
